Forgen wind turbines are designed for use in harsh environments where other wind turbines can't last the course: The British Antarctic Survey use these in Antarctica. Well-engineered sealed bearings, a simple yet robust construction and an efficient, carefully-balanced generator combine to make a machine that is dependable, yet effective. All electrical components are encapsulated and the unit is virtually maintenance free: There are no slip rings to cause interference against electrical equipment; the outlet supply cable to the battery cannot become entangled; there are no separate blades and the unit is vibration free and silent in operation.
This type of vertical axis wind turbine gives lower power output than similarly sized horizontal axis turbines. However, for remote power solutions where dependability is more important than sheer power, they are absolutely excellent. Use a Forgen 500 for lighter loads, and a Forgen 1000 where your power needs are a bit greater. Both turbines are also available as side-mounted versions with additional top bearings for added support. They can also be supplied in different colours and with modifications such as cold-temperature bearings if they are going to be used in the polar regions - just let us know what you want!
