The TriStar is a highly versatile piece of kit. In standard solar controller mode it can pump up to 60 amps from a solar array into a 12, 24 or 48 volt battery bank. That's a whopping 3kW of solar panels in a 48 volt system - and if that's not enough, you can put several TriStars in parallel to handle even larger arrays!
The regulation voltage can be adjusted to suit different types of lead-acid batteries, which can require slightly different regulation setpoints. It can also be adjusted to suit NiCd or NiMH battery banks.
The TriStar can be operated in diversion mode, which means that instead of open-circuiting the solar panel array to stop it producing electricity when the batteries are full, it will instead divert excess power into a diversion load - often an immersion heater so that the power (which would otherwise be wasted) can be used to heat water. In diversion mode, it can also be used as a wind turbine controller. And it comes with low voltage disconnect terminals should you wish to use it to control a load when the battery voltage should ever get a little low.
Does that cover everything? Oh, we might not have mentioned the protections against reverse polarity, short-circuit high temperature and overvoltage, and getting struck by lightning. We're not kidding - they've fitted 4500W transient surge suppressors to these babies. In fact, if there is a feature that would be nice to have on a solar controller that isn't on these, we can't think of it - unless it is a voltage and current meter, which isn't on the standard model. But hey, they do it as an optional extra, so if you want one, just give us a shout and we'll get one in for you.
This model can be used with currents up to 60A! We also sell the 45A model if your power requirements aren't quite that high.
